 New jobs to be created for expanding Ithaca’s Washington Road to accommodate ZFS soybean plant

Gratiot County will be able to create 72 new jobs with a grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Announced Thursday, MDOT will award a $652,000 Transportation Economic Development Fund to expand Washington Road in Ithaca that will support 72 new jobs in the county and will help leverage $135 million in private investment, according to a news release.

In anticipation of a soybean plant being built by Zeeland Farm Services, Washington Road in Ithaca will be expanded to four lanes from U.S. 127 to approximately 2,000 feet east to provide better access to the facility and to improve traffic flow around the plant.
