Georgia Power to close Boro office and doesn’t say how many American jobs to be eliminated

Georgia Power to close Boro office

Georgia Power Company announced Friday it will close its Statesboro office along with all of their 27 customer service offices statewide by the end of the year. Employees in the Georgia Power office at 305 South Main Street were notified Thursday of the closure plans.

In 2016, Georgia Power closed 131 customer service offices statewide, but the Statesboro office survived. With the latest restructuring, Georgia Power doubled their authorized payment locations statewide, which now include Walmart, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Kmart and most grocery stores.

The closest location for paying a bill in person can be found by searching on the Georgia Power website: There is a $1.50 per transaction fee and customers need to have a copy of their bill or an account number to pay at one of the listed locations.

Audrey King, Georgia Power’s area manager for Statesboro, said the cost-cutting move is in response to a change in customers’ needs and to provide the lowest possible price for consumers.
