San Antonio-based refiner Andeavor Corp. will layoff 15 people in the Alamo City due to its merger with Western Refining.
The layoff was listed in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act) released Monday. The merger between Andeavor — formerly known as Tesoro Corp. — and El Paso-based Western closed in June.
“We acknowledge that in combining two companies, there will be some overlap of roles and capabilities,” Tina Barbee, an Andeavor spokeswoman, said in an email. “As a result, our leaders are establishing the combined organization to deliver on its strategic objectives and synergies. The reduction in workforce referenced in the WARN report is a reflection of the company’s efforts to integrate the organization.”
