Comcast eliminating 200 American jobs at Oak Brook sales center

Comcast laying off 200 at Oak Brook sales center

Comcast is laying off 200 sales employees at its Oak Brook facility effective Oct. 30, moving the jobs out of state and closing its Chicago-area inbound sales operation.

“Those positions will be consolidated into other inbound sales units in locations throughout our central division,” Comcast spokesman Jack Segal said Tuesday.

Segal did not say how many sales positions would be added at other facilities in the central division, a wide swath of Comcast’s territory stretching from Florida to Michigan. He did confirm those jobs would be leaving Illinois.

The inbound sales division fields calls from potential customers interested in signing up for Comcast service. In addition to eliminating the sales positions, Comcast is moving 170 customer service employees from west suburban Oak Brook to another call center in Woodridge, about 15 miles away.

The Oak Brook facility currently has about 900 employees, Segal said. The layoffs and relocations will reduce the Oak Brook workforce by about 40 percent.
