Ball Corp. to close Birmingham plant, lay off 91 workers
Ball Corporation (NYSE:BLL) announced it will close its Birmingham plant next year, affecting 91 employees.
The Birmingham plant opened in 1952. It’ll close in the second quarter.
Birmingham is one of three plants Ball Corp. will close next year. All three plants make beverage packaging, and together they employ 309 people.
Ball Corp. will begin construction on a new beverage packaging facility in Goodyear, Arizona. It’ll begin construction in the second quarter of next year.
The company says it expects to save $50 million late next year and beyond as a result of the closures.
